Sandbox Demonstrator: Visualising the Art of the Possible for Data Sharing
This is one of a series of interim outputs produced as part of the Information Sharing Project in collaboration with The Promise Scotland. This project has sought to understand the legal, cultural, and technical barriers to data and information sharing as it relates to care experienced children, young people, and their families across public sector agencies and organisations in Scotland.
This sandbox provides a practical demonstration environment to illustrate the art of the possible for person-centred, transparent, and secure data sharing. The sandbox was designed to show how individuals might gain a clear view of their data journey and interactions with service providers and their wider circles of support, while ensuring safety, consent, and GDPR compliance. It highlights how multi-party data sharing could work in practice when the individual is placed at the centre of interactions.
Within the sandbox, example service journeys have been configured to reflect Isla’s composite story, one of a collection of composite stories developed by the Independent Care Review in partnership with children, young people, their families and carers to reflect their experiences. This configuration of Isla’s story includes features such as secure messaging, referrals, calendars, circles of support, and access to curated content relevant to both service users and service providers.
In addition to the technical demonstration, and to support wider engagement and accessibility, 2 video recordings accompany the sandbox. These videos provide a demonstration the sandbox and a walk-thorugh of the People Web App used to configure the Sandbox.
The findings presented here should be read alongside insights from the other work packages. Together, they contribute to a shared and evolving understanding of how data and information sharing can better support care experienced children and young people in Scotland. As with the other interim outputs, the content reflects work in progress, with the full set of final project outputs due to be published in spring 2026.
Sandbox Demonstrator Overview
People App Walk-Through
The People App Walk-Through demonstrates a fully responsive web application called the People App. The app was developed by Mydex CIC to provide a person-centered, secure, lifelong record of important information, backed by the Mydex Safe Secure Cloud.
The example used in this demonstration is centered around Isla’s composite story, demonstrating how the app supports her journey through life by tracking significant events and personal data.
